Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board has bagged The National Urban Water Awards, 2009 and stood first in the “Financial Reform” category. B. W. S. S. B Chairman has received this prestigious award from the President of India, Smt. Pratibha Devi Singh Patil, at a function held at Vigyana Bhavan, New Delhi on 13th August 2009. BWSSB was given the award in the “Financial Reform” category, for its achievement in “cost recovery through effective billing and collection” facilitated by citizen friendly interface such as spot billing, 24X7 payment facilities through Kaveri Kiosks, 100% metering and GIS applications.

BWSSB has bagged the prestigious Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) International award for its outstanding accomplishment in GIS and its applications. BWSSB has won this award instituted by Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) California USA, out of more than 100,000 organizations worldwide. The presentation of BWSSB about BISON done on the occasion recently in New Delhi has been hosted on 100,000 web sites world over. The SAG award will be presented to BWSSB during the ESRI International User Conference 2004, at San Deigo, California on 12.08.2004.

BWSSB has been conferred with Rajiv Gandhi State Award for the year 2004-05, for its outstanding contribution in the area of water conservation, Recycling & Re-use of water, scientific treatment and disposal of sewage and protection of environment.

BWSSB has bagged Silver Icon Award for its Exemplary Performance in E-Governance initiatives undertaken in the Board for the year 2003. This Award for Exemplary performance in E-Governance initiatives was conferred by Sri L.K Advani, Hon’ble Dy. Prime Minister and Home Minister, Government of India at the 7th National E-Governance Conference jointly organized by Government of India and Government of Tamilnadu from 13.11.2003 to 15.11.2003 at Chennai.

Bangalore Water Supply and Sewage Board was awarded the Golden Peacock Award under the Municipal Services Sector. BWSSB is the first among the Government Sector to get this Award. The award function was arranged by the Institute Of Directors (IOD) on 24.01.2004. Large scale Industry presented the Award to Chairman BWSSB.

B.W.S.S.B – Winner in National Urban Water Awards

Karnataka Urban Water Supply & Drainage Board is the runner up is for its effort in “improving water services through financial reforms in Hubli-Dharwad” through effective metering, 100% spot billing, reduction of non-revenue water and Barcoded Tap Cards. The National Urban Water Awards, 2009, have been instituted by the Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) with the objective of recognizing urban local bodies, water boards and organizations which have taken significant steps towards efficient delivery of water and sanitation services in order to promote excellence in this sector. The awards cover six categories: Technical innovation, Financial reforms, Services to the poor, Citizen services and Governance, Public-Private Partnership and Urban sanitation. The Administrative Staff College of India, Hyderabad (ASCI) and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ), an international cooperation enterprise for sustainable development with worldwide operations owned by the Federal Republic of Germany are the MoUD’s partners in this endeavour.
